Team Liquid promotes GSR to main starting roster, benches purp0 ahead of Champions Shanghai

Team Liquid has announced a last-minute change to their main VALORANT starting lineup ahead of Champions Shanghai. Serbian prospect Ognjen "GSR" Bondžić is stepping into the main roster, replacing long-time flex/duelist Semyon "purp0" Borchev.
A Late Roster Swap Before Shanghai
The decision comes directly before the biggest tournament of the international VALORANT season. GSR, who had been impressing the organization through performance on Liquid’s academy setup and previous substitute stints, earned the call-up to the starting main roster. Liquid expressed strong confidence that promoting GSR gives them the highest ceiling to contend for the trophy in Shanghai.
Honoring purp0's Impact
The roster move brings an end to purp0’s run in Liquid's starting five throughout the 2026 season. The Russian player earned praise across the year for his selflessness, taking on various roles and giving Liquid the necessary flexibility to compete at the highest level EMEA had to offer.
The move marks a high-stakes gamble for Team Liquid as they aim for international glory with a refreshed dynamic on stage.
