G2 Esports dismantle TYLOO to open Champions Shanghai Group C

G2 Esports beat TYLOO 2-0 in Group C at Champions Shanghai, winning Lotus 13-6 and Sunset 13-3. trent led the server with a 1.75 rating and 287 ACS, and G2 won all four pistol rounds and every bonus round that followed.

The series closed out day one of Champions Shanghai. Earlier in the day, Paper Rex had beaten Team Liquid 2-1 in the other Group C opener, so a place against PRX was on the line.

G2 banned Summit and TYLOO banned Abyss, then G2 picked Lotus and TYLOO picked Sunset; Split and Ascent went next, leaving Haven as the decider. It was never needed: G2 won their own pick 13-6 and took TYLOO's 13-3, finishing the series 26 rounds to 9.

Map-by-map: how G2 beat TYLOO

Lotus (G2 pick): G2 13-6

Both teams brought double-Controller setups with Omen and Viper. G2 paired them with trent's Skye, BABYBAY's Vyse and JAWGEMO's Raze; TYLOO ran Chamber, Neon and Fade around theirs.

G2 took the opening pistol and the bonus, but TYLOO answered with four straight rounds from round 3 to round 6. Every round TYLOO won on attack in the first half came after a plant (6 of 6), and G2 did not retake any of them. A TYLOO plant in round 12 levelled the half at 6-6.

The second half was one-way. G2 won the round 13 pistol, converted the bonus and did not drop another round, running off seven straight from round 13 to 19. G2 planted in all seven second-half attack rounds and won every one. valyn held the post-plant alone against two defenders in round 18 until the spike detonated for match point, and BABYBAY won a 1v2 with two kills in round 19 to close it 13-6.

Sunset (TYLOO pick): G2 13-3

Sunset was a near-mirror: both teams ran Omen, Sage, Chamber and Neon, and the only difference was G2's Skye in the slot where TYLOO played Fade. trent's Skye put up 22 kills to 6 deaths and 350 ACS, the best single-map line of the series.

G2's defense decided the map by half-time. trent retook the spike in round 1, and G2 won 10 of 12 first-half rounds, eight of them in a row from round 4 to round 11. TYLOO reached a plant in 7 of their 12 attack rounds, but G2 defused five of those seven. trent won a 1v3 with three kills and the defuse in round 7 to make it 6-1. G2 took the second-half pistol and bonus, and TYLOO's only round after the swap came from a slowly retake in round 15.

Why did G2 beat TYLOO so easily?

Pistols and bonuses. G2 won 4 of 4 pistol rounds and converted all four bonus rounds after them. That is 8 of their 26 rounds won before TYLOO could buy rifles, and it kept TYLOO on a broken economy for most of the series: TYLOO won 0 of 8 eco rounds.

Full-buy discipline. With rifles on both sides, G2 won 80% of their full-buy rounds, against a 59.4% average across the four teams that have played so far. TYLOO won 42.1%.

Opening duels and retakes. G2 took first blood in 22 of 35 rounds and won 19 of them. G2 retook 5 of the 13 plants TYLOO got down, while TYLOO retook 1 of 10. First blood and round wins usually go together, so these figures show how much of the series G2 controlled rather than one single cause.

Standout performers

• trent (G2, Skye): 38 kills to 17 deaths, 1.75 rating, 287 ACS, 174 ADR, and 4 first kills against 0 first deaths.

• valyn (G2, Omen): 1.30 rating and 235 ACS from the Controller role, +2 on opening duels.

• JAWGEMO (G2): 19 kills and 239 ADR on Neon on Sunset, after a quieter Lotus on Raze.

• For TYLOO, Scales posted the team's best rating (0.73) and a 44% headshot rate, the highest in the event so far, with 225 ACS on Sage on Sunset.
