Version1 shocked North America and the world by becoming the second team to represent NA at Masters Reykjavik. They performed quite well with stand-in Jamal “jammyz” Bangash. V1 impressed spectators on the first global Valorant stage. Unfortunately, the trip to Iceland was not all sunshine and rainbows it seems. Riot Games has issued a competitive suspension to one of V1’s young stars, Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro as a result of his actions during the event.
The Valorant Champions Tour NA Twitter account revealed a competitive ruling for Zellsis‘ suspension. The full details of the situation have not been revealed. What is known is that Zellsis is said to have “made a categorically offensive and discriminatory remark about a tournament official” that resulted in Riot Games suspending him for Stage 3 Challengers 1. That is both the Qualifier and the Main Event. The full ruling can be reached through the VCT NA’s tweet and read on the official Valorant website.
Version1 was quick to accept the suspension, issuing a statement on their Twitter account.
This was followed by an apology tweet by Zellsis himself. He expressed regret for whatever was said at Masters Reykjavik, also accepting the suspension as his team did. He also apologized to his teammates for thrusting another substitute situation upon them.
There has been no announcement yet regarding who the substitute player may be for Version1. Calls for jammyz have come in the comments of Version1’s tweet. He is certainly available and knows the V1 play style after performing exceptionally with them at Masters Reykjavik.
With Maxim “wippie” Shepelev returning to the roster as regional play picks back up, he could easily slot back into the Viper role with jammyz loading in as a Duelist, which he has experience playing. This is all just wishful thinking on the part of the community at this point, however.
Nothing will be known regarding the stand-in for Version1 until they announce it themselves. Stage 3 of VCT is on the horizon and practice will be needed, so expect a decision soon. As well, nothing will be known regarding the comment made by Zellsis until he, V1, or Riot Games releases further details. That part seems unlikely, though.
