The VCT Game Changers Series 2 Qualifier has finished. That means the top eight teams, those moving onto the Main Event, have been decided. There were a few surprises along the way that caused a shake up in the top eight. Some teams expected to qualify did not and others came out swinging.
Here are the results for the eight Main Event teams in the VCT Game Changers Series 2 Qualifier.
The eight teams to qualify as seen in the tweet above are:
Dignitas was the only qualifying team to not drop a single map throughout the qualifier. They won with 2-0 victories against Team Blossom, 100emoji, and No Shot.
Cloud9 White was close to replicate that, but Shopify Rebellion became the first female team to take a map of of them. C9 W ran through Team Cyrus and 24Haven, while edging out SR 2-1.
Just Breathe ended their first round 2-0 against besties. Following that was a 2-0 against a formidable TradeLikePros Prism team. Qualifying in the Upper Bracket saw them upset an always dangerous CLG Red 2-1.
TSM Female received a first round bye before taking down Yume Moon 2-0. A tough showing by GX3 took a map from them, but TSM qualified for the Main Event 2-1.
NOTHING2LOSE defeated NMG 2-0, but fell to Shopify Rebellion. That loss set up them up for a sweeping Lower Bracket Run. 2-0 map counts over Paradox, 24Haven, and No Shot propelled them into the Main Event.
GX3 was already mentioned, having been sent to the Lower Bracket by TSM Female. That gave them only one Lower Bracket contest in order to qualify. They defeated Serenity Purple 2-0.
The same goes for Shopify Rebellion and CLG Red. Shopify Rebellion was pushed to the Lower Bracket by Cloud9 White and faced off in a tight series against Gen.G Team Bumble. The persevered after dropping the first map, moving on 2-1.
CLG Red, after losing to Just Breathe, went against fan-favorite Man I Love Fwogs. Both teams were in the Main Event of the first Game Changers tournament, but only one could advance in Series 2. CLG Red showed up to their final match of the Qualifier with a purpose. They ended MILF’s run 2-0 and became the last team to advance in the VCT Game Changers Series 2.
Shortly after the VCT Game Changers Series 2 Qualifier came to a close, the seeding for the Main Event was released. The tournament will start with four Upper Quarterfinals matches. It will then follow a standard double elimination format. Teams that lose will get a chance to fight through a Lower Bracket with only one more defeat allowed before they exit the event. Two teams will meet in the Grand Final and only one team will be crowned VCT Game Changers Series 2 Champions.
Dignitas vs. Shopify Rebellion: While Dignitas did not drop a map, Shopify Rebellion took one from the proverbial titans that are Cloud9 White. This contest could easily set the pace for the entire tournament. Both teams are incredibly tough. Whoever wins or loses are going to be a nightmare for the participants in the next series.
Just Breathe vs. CLG Red: Just Breathe upset CLG Red in the Upper Bracket of the Qualifier. CLG Red is going to be seeing red in this one. Expect them to be out for blood and try to avenge the match up. A repeat of that series may very well happen, however. Just Breathe vs. CLG Red has the potential to be the most exciting contest of the Upper Quarterfinals.
Cloud9 White vs. NOTHING2LOSE: Their name says it all. They truly have nothing to lose against Cloud9 White. No one expects any other team to win this tournament. This could play into N2L’s favor. If they put the pressure on Cloud9 White, perhaps the reigning Game Changers Champions will crack? Don’t count on it, but it’s always fun to see an underdog story unfold.
TSM vs. GX3: The final series of the Upper Quarterfinals is TSM Female vs. GX3. This is another rematch from the Qualifier Upper Bracket. TSM has been a consistent force in these tournaments. GX3 is a fairly new team, but the players on it are all seasoned. They have what it takes to come out on the other side of the series with a victory. The easy bet is on TSM, but the long shot high risk high reward bet is on GX3 to pull it out.
