Valorant Patch 1.04: Agent changes breakdown

Patch 1.04 brought some interesting agent changes to the table. Four agents were hit with alterations, some got nerfs, some got buffs. The agents affected in the patch include Viper, Brimstone, Raze, and Cypher. It is Viper, however, that got the biggest changes out of the aforementioned agents.

Viper back on the table?

Viper just could not catch a break ever since release. Despite Valorant developers’ best efforts to make her viable in the game in the previous patch, she still remained at the very bottom of everyone’s tier lists. This also meant that her pick rate was the lowest out of all agents. Perhaps patch 1.04 sees the revival of the toxic Viper.

Viper’s Pit

Max time outside of her ult before it collapses changed from 5>>>12 seconds

Viper can hold the ability key to drop her ult early

Enemies in Viper’s Pit have their minimap obscured and do not provide minimap detection to their allies

Increased the brightness of the red enemy glow at the edge of Viper’s near-sight


Enemy decay per second increased from 10 to 15 from all sources.

After exiting Viper’s smoke, enemy decay sustains for 2.5 seconds before starting to fade


Having both Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen active does not consume additional fuel beyond the cost of having one active

These changes look very promising for Viper simps. Her ultimate, Viper’s Pit, seems like a death trap for enemies to enter. They no longer expose Viper to their allies if seen inside the smoke, as well as having their minimap simply disabled. Enemies are now more visible too due to color enhancements. However, Viper can now exit Viper’s Pit for up to 12 seconds before it collapses, making her much more mobile and being able to surprise enemies.

Viper’s Decay may also be a game changer as her abilities now decay one’s life much faster at 15 per second. The decay also fades after 2.5 seconds after being in contact with her abilities. This is a huge buff as now, Viper’s team has a brief window of time to gun down enemies with a decaying state. On top of all this, her Poison Cloud and Toxic Screen abilities can, in essence, be sustained for much longer. Before the changes, when the two abilities would be active simultaneously, her Fuel would drain dramatically. Now, it will be possible to have both abilities active at once for longer.

With these changes, we may be seeing a lot more Viper players in competitive play.

Raze will do less blasting… slightly

Showstopper ultimate Cost changed from 6 to 7 Ult points

The devs have spoken before about a possible Raze nerf. Patch 1.04 will very slightly nerf the explosive specialist. Her all-destroying ultimate, Showstopper, will require one more Ultimate point to be used. This may reduce the amount of times we get blown up in the air by an air propelled Raze with her rocket launcher at the ready.

Orbital Strike ultimate cost changed from 6 to 7 Ult points

Stim Beacon no longer Buffs enemies and no longer shows its effect radius to enemies

Brimstone’s Arms Fidelity

Brimstone is up there on most people’s S and A agent tier lists. Though receiving heavy competition from Omen, the American is still a staple agent when it comes to smoking off areas for set pieces. In patch 1.04, his ultimate, Orbital Strike, has received a slight nerf by requiring one more ultimate point in order to be used. The devastating air strike is fantastic at defending the bomb, as well as denying bomb plants. Doing that too often may have been the driving factor behind that decision. On the contrary, his Stim Beacons, which increase the firing and reload speed have received a buff. Enemies do not benefit from standing in the beacons and don’t see the shiny effect radius, something that often gave away Brimstone’s positioning.

And, the most important change on this list, Brimstone’s muscly arms. Brimstone players will now have the pleasure of looking at their army general’s buffed up arms. Definitely something to look out for.

Cypher mains get helping hand

Cyber Cage can now be picked up during the buy phase

Although a tiny thing, this quality of life improvement is a blessing for many Cypher mains. If you don’t like the positioning of your Cyber Cage at buy phase after dropping it, you can pick it back up and place it differently. Many Cypher players will definitely be happy with this little, yet significant, change.
